Application and Reviewing Process

CTDIAC expects concluded, original and potentially impactful work. Applications must include a pdf file containing a paper summarizing the thesis and highlighting the most important contributions and derived work (see details later), as well as a pdf of the thesis.

The paper summarizing the thesis work should also include following information in the first page right after the abstract:

  • Name of the applicant
  • Institution where title was obtained
  • Name of advisor and co-advisors (if applicable)
  • Track (MSc or PhD)
  • Date of defense
  • Examining board members
  • Link to an online version of the full thesis (written in English or in Portuguese)
  • Pointers to publications containing derived work

Papers can be written in English or in Portuguese and must not exceed 16 pages, including title, abstract, all tables, figures, and references. More information can be found HERE. Authors should use the SBC style file for publications (Book Chapters and Articles) available HERE.

Submissions that exceed the maximum length or violate the formatting guidelines shall be rejected without review.

Decision Process

The Contest involves two phases. In the first phase, applications are peer reviewed by a selected program committee with a focus on the summary paper. Shortlisted authors selected according to the reviews are invited to participate in the second phase, which involves an (in-person) oral presentation followed by a questioning phase by an appointed committee. The committee considers the oral presentation and the original thesis to reach a decision of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each track (PhD and MSc).

Shortlisted authors are strongly encouraged to attend the conference and present in-person. In case this is not possible, an online presentation can be arranged, if communicated to the Chairs in advance.
